Word wrapping in Emacs

  • First you've got to edit your .emacs file. Insert the line
        (setq-default fill-column 80)
    at the bottom. Here 80 is the maximal width of a line. You could use something else as well (70 is default, but I think that's pretty narrow).
  • Then restart emacs and resume typing your document.
  • When you're finished with a paragraph type M q (here M is the Meta-key, probably ESC or Alt Gr).
